TRAINING AND EDUCATION
AABC believes that training and education are essential to the development of competent test and balance personnel. The association has therefore developed a series of training programs for TAB technicians.
AABC requires all member agencies' technicians to enroll in the AABC Technician Certification Program. To become certified, technicians must have at least four (4) years of test and balance experience, and have worked for an AABC certified agency for at least the prior 12 months. In addition, technicians must be competent in air, water, sound, and vibration testing. Technicians must also be able to perform all work in accordance with the AABC National Standards. The final requirement for certification is that technicians pass all required examinations.
In addition to this formal training program, AABC also offers a variety of training supplements.
The Technician Training Manual covers the fundamentals of testing and balancing complete with illustrations. The manual comes with an Instructor's guide to facilitate additional classroom training by the member agency. AABC also produced a series of eight (8) Test and Balance Training Videos. The visual presentation of proper TAB procedures allows both new and more seasoned technicians to understand and follow standardized procedures for Total System Balance. Technicians also receive on the job training through practical field experience. This training is augmented by classroom instruction and one on one consultations with management. Meetings and seminars are also held throughout the year to help keep members abreast of new technologies and applications. Members are required to attend at least one meeting annually. Finally, Test and Balance Engineers (TBEs) are required to submit at least one technical article every two years for publication in Tab Journal.
